Peru - Climbing Chopicalqui Mountain

Altitude: 6.354 m.
Duration: 05 days.
Difficulty: PD +/ AD
Climbing season: May to September.

Itinerary:

Day 1: acclimatization trek to Churup Lake (4.400 m) and return to Huaraz.
We leave Huaraz by private-bus to the little village Pitek (3.850m). At first we pass through another village, which is called Llupa (3.650m). From here we have a beautiful view to the southern part of the Cordillera Blanca. Our trip to the Churup-Lake (4.450m) we start from Pitek. At first we enter the mountain ravine of Churup. After some hours of walking we reach the Lake Churup. Here we stay for one hour before we return to Huaraz.

Day 2 : Huaraz to base camp of Chopicalqui. (4350 m):
bus ride to Cebollapampa (4.100 m ) where we start walking to the base camp, carrying our personal gear. We spend the night at the camp.
Day 3 : base camp to camp 1 (5.300 m ). Vertical drop: 900 m, duration: 4 to 5 hours.
Day 4: Chopicalqui summit (6.354 m )
early start before dawn to climb to the summit. The vertical drop of 1,054 m and the return to camp 1 is usually done in 10 to 11 hours. The summit offers exceptional views of the whole Cordillera Blanca mountain range.
Day 5: Camp 1 to Huaraz
return to Cebollapampa where we transfer on bus to Huaraz. The vertical drop of 1200 m is done in 4 hours.

EXPEDITION COSTS INCLUDE:

- When you arrive to huaraz we pick up you to the hotel by taxi.
- 2 nights lodging in Huaraz (double bed, breakfast included)
- Private local transportation Huaraz - Portachuelo Llanganuco - Huaraz.
- Mountain guide, porters and cook.
- Donkeys to carry the common gear (tents, food and fuel) as well as personal gear (up to 20 kg per person)
- Kitchen gear and cooking facilities at base camp (including dining tent, chairs, cooking tent).
- Food for the whole duration of the climb (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is included.
* The meals include: omelets, sups, fresh fruits, ahuacate, spaghettis meats, rice all them rich in carbohydrates, excellent to recover all the energy you lose during the trek and climbing, also include drinks as: tea, coffee, milk breads, popcorn and coco tea good for altitude sickness.
- Climbing gear: rope, plastic boots, harness, ice axes
- Camping gear: 3 season tent
- First aid kit
- Check-up for oxygen to assess acclimatization level of each client.
- Entry to National Park Huascaran .

Not included:

- Personal trekking and climbing gear (sleeping bag, sleeping mattress etc..)
- Personal expenses .

    Lightweight walking shoes/sandals/socks/pants/short pants/T-shirts (long sleeve and short sleeve)/sunglasses/sunscreen/plastic bags/warm sleeping bag /light weight trekking boots/wool socks/light weight treeking pants/waterproof pants and jacket/fleece/Goretex/hat/mits or warm gloves/thermal liners/camera/bandana or hat against sun/headlamp with extra batteries.
  • Safety Individual gear:
    Glacier glasses 100% UV with rigid case (2 pair recommended)/ goggles/ sunscreen with maximum protection/lipbalm/4 season sleeping bag/ sleeping pad or thermarest/hat/thermal underwear/fleece jacket/fleece pants/down jacket/Goretex jacket or similar material/2 pairs of gloves or mittens/ pair of thermal glove liners/2 pairs of thermal sock liners/plastic boots/gaiters
