Itinerary:
1st day.- Arrival to Lima.
Pick up at the airport “Jorge Chavez” in Lima and transportation to the reserved hotel in Lima.
2nd day.- Departure from Lima to Huaraz (by bus).
We will travel by bus from Lima to Huaraz, the capital of the district of Ancash (3100m). The transport provided by the company “Móvil Tours”:
Departure time in Lima is at 1.00pm and we will arrive in Huaraz at 8.00pm.
Pick up at the bus terminal and transfer to the hotel in Huaraz is included.
3rd day.- Resting Day in Huaraz.
The staff of "Enrique Expedition Tours" and the mountain guide will inform you about the trekking and climbing we are going to do in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru.
Organization of mountaineering material and information by our guide (UIAGM) about our first expedition of trekking Quilcayhuanca Cojup and climbing Mount Vallunaraju - Alpamayo – Cordillera Blanca.
4th day.-Huaraz – Pitec - Quilcayhuanca Valley – Camp Cayeshpampa (4100m)
We will pick you up at the hotel and leave by private bus towards the east of Huaraz. We will pass by the villages of Unchus and Llupa before we will arrive at Pitec (3800m). From there our carrier will take our camping equipment and we will start our trekking through a plane area towards the Quilcayhuanca valley til we reach our first camp Cayeshpampa (4100m).
5th day.- Cayeshpampa (4100m) – Lakes Tullpacocha (4300m) and Cuchillacocha (4625m) – Pass of Huapi (5020 m) – Cojup Valley.
This day we will hike on a path that goes up to Cuchillacocha Lake (4625m), that lies at the foot of Mount Pucaranra (6156m) and Chinchey (6222m). Then we will continue to climb up to Huapi Pass (5020m). It will take us about 5 hours to arrive at this highest point of the circuit. From here we will have a great view of the mountains Huapi, Pucaranra, Tullparaju, Andavete, Cayesh, Maparaju, San Juan, Palcaraju, Ishinca and Ranrapalca. After this we will descend to the beautiful valley of Cojup, where we will stay the night to enjoy the sunset behind the mountains.
6th day.-Quebrada Cojup – Base Camp Vallunaraju (4200m).
Today we will hike down through the valley of Cojup until its entrance. There our transport, that brings us to the Llaca Valley. We will hike up until the base camp of Vallunaraju, next to the mountain refuge of the “Casa de Guias”.
7th day.- Base Camp Vallunaraju (4200m) – Summit Vallunaraju (5686m) – Huaraz.
We will leave very early (3-4 am) to the summit. First we will you have to go back about 180 meters from the campsite. Then we will climb up to the right along a marked path and after 2 hours of walking we will reach the base of the glacier. From there we will climb up a short slope of 35-40°, after we will follow on the glacier by gentle slopes until we pass through the left side of Vallunaraju South. After we arrive at the col, connecting the two peaks, we will take the left path with a slope of 40° to reach the summit. There we will have an impressive view of the “Callejón de Huaylas” (Huaylas Corridor). The descent follows the same route to the base camp, where we will take a car to Huaraz and our hostel.
8th day.- Resting Day in Huaraz.
Organization of the personal and mountaineering equipment, as well as logistical information about our expedition of climbing Mount Alpamayo on the Direct French Route.
9th day.- Huaraz (3090m) – Cashapampa (2900m) – Llamacorral (3760m).
We will pick up our clients directly in their hotel in Huaraz and take a three hour private bus ride from Huaraz to Cashapampa (2900m), where the donkey driver and his donkeys will be waiting for us to transport our trekking gear. From there we start the trek up the Santa Cruz valley until we reach the Llamacorral camp, where we will set up our camp.
10th day.- Llamacorral – Jatuncocha Lake – Arhuaycocha Valley – Alpamayo base camp (4600m).
After a good breakfast we will leave the camp at Llamacorral and continue through the Valley of Santa Cruz. On the way we pass by the lagoons Icchicocha and Jatuncocha until we reach to the cross the Arhuaycocha Valley. From there we climb a zigzag rocky path until reaching the base camp of Alpamayo, where we will make our second camp.
11th day.- Alpamayo base camp (4600m) – Morrena – Alpamayo Col (5300m).
This day our porters are responsible for the transportation of our gear, food and camping equipment and we go to start ascending the moraine. On the way we will encounter very rocky paths and trails accompanied by polished granite rocks. After passing these rocks we begin to enter the glacial area. First we enter through easy pathways and continue down a path surrounded by deep cracks. We will then find ourselves at the base of a famous mountain pass. From there we start climbing slowly up until arriving the final climbs (60º - 65º). Climbing through the pass we will descend a few meters to our next camp. Climbing this pass we will go down a few meters further to arrive in the C1 of Alpamayo. (Camp 1 - 5300m).
12th day.- Alpamayo Col (5300m) – Summit of Alpamayo (5947m) – Alpamayo base camp.
This day, starting from Camp 1, we will descend with our clients to the base of the wall. There we will reach up until the lower part of the Rimaya. In this part we will climbing a zone in great uniform slope of about 55º - 60º and we will reach a steeper part with more than 85° and 90° at a height of 4 meters. Continuing the original channel (65º - 75º), we will meet some small mixed sections until reaching the summit. After the top our guide will be using aluminum stakes to install anchors, that we can do a rappelling with the rope of 70-80 meters on the same route back to Alpamayo Col.
Upon the ascent beside of realizing reunions with ice screws our guide also uses a technique called “abalacop”, which is a system where you put a wire or string into the hard ice and very good for safty.
13th day.- Alpamayo base camp (4600m) – Llamacorral (3760m) – Cashapampa (2900m) – Huaraz – Hostel.
This day our donkey driver will carry our personal gear, as well as mountain equipment with them. We leave the Alpamayo base camp in direction of the Santa Cruz Vallez, passing again the two lagoons Jatuncocha and Icchincocha to arrive to the Camp Llamacorral. From there we will walk downhill until we reach Cashapampa, where we are expected by a bus of the Company "Enrique Expedition Tours", that will bring us directly to the city of Huaraz and our hotel.
14th day.- Departure from Huaraz to Lima (Bus).
Transportation from the hotel to the bus terminal "Móvil Tours" and departure from Huaraz.
The departure time will be determined by your schedule, in the afternoon or night.
Afternoon departure: 1:00 pm.
Night departure: 10:30 pm.
Pick up at the bus terminal in Lima and transfer to the hotel booked by us.
15th day.- Transfer from the hotel to the airport - Return to the country of origin.
